  • What is Xanga? Simply put, it’s an autobiography and the Xanga community is the bookstore. A digital bookstore that even has genres in the form of blogrings. Our Xangas are an extension of who we are. Each one is specially customized visually to reflect our personalities, interests, and perspectives. Xanga is amazing in that it allows us to have a real-time record of our daily motions in life. It allows us to see our own growth through our personal thoughts and actions on a day-to-day basis. Maybe the most powerful result of Xanga is allowing other people to come into our lives. In reality, our own personal thoughts are not always projected on to other people. We need something that can listen and project our message out for the masses to see and understand. It is when people are able to see our true thoughts and feelings that enables them to make a connection with us. In this way, Xanga serves as a medium, a gateway if you will. Xanga is a friend in the truest form. It’s there to listen to our everyday trials, tribulations, and successes. It will never forget, and in turn, it can either keep our secrets or help others to understand us better.

  • Top ten reasons why I chose to Blog instead of writing on random little pieces of paper.

    10)  There is ownership in the Blog situation. If you write about something it is going to represent who you are to the world of internet.

    9)  Sometimes, though it is a rarity, a computer is easier to find than a pen with ink/pencil with lead and a random little piece of paper.

    8)  Blogging as a way of journalling is a lot faster and therefore a lot more detailed.

    7)  Cool people read Blogs.  Not a lot of cool people read randome little pieces of paper.

    6)  Blogging can stretch time zones and oceans.  Little random papers can only stretch . . . well, they can’t stretch at all.

    5)  Putting in pictures like this is a lot easier on a Blog.  If you wanted to put such picture on a random piece of paper it would entail printing and pasting manually, which is always bothersome.

    4) A lot of other cool people write on blogs.  Not a lot of cool people write daily on little random peices of paper.

    3)  With blogging you can join blogging groups with your interests and such. You can’t do this on little random pieces of paper — that would involve just too much work.

    2)  You get to put cool background on blogs and make them all personal like.  You could also do this on paper.  Okay, this one is a tie.

    1)  and the number one reason why one should always write down thoughts on blogs instead of random little papers is . . . because everyone knows that only treasure maps are on random pieces of thrown paper.  Duh.

  • To share the joys of life.

  •  “True is the grief you carry without witnesses.”
    Marcus Martialis

The reason I began to xanga, and blog in general, was to express feelings that I had, which I could not bring myself to openly say to others.  My xanga used to be anonymous and had a few random subscribers that found me through groups and other users.  However as I grew and learned about myself and the world I began to be happier with my life in general and my blog changed into just my daily activities and musings and with it my xanga became a place for everyone, including my friends to see, no longer an anonymous shelter.  I thank xanga for letting me express my feelings privately and yet feel like people out there were listening, teaching to and learning from me.  Now I xanga because it lets me stay in touch with my friends and others and brings everyone into my life in a world where there’s too many to love and not enough time.  I xanga to help me live, love and learn..

  • I had a Xanga site for nearly a year before I ever posted.

I remember reading – in disbelief – what private details folks would write – “FOOLS – how could they possibly  put that out here” thought I. I would read young cutters, folks w/ anorexia, troubled, angry teens, and thinking, hoping that i may have something to offer – some wisdom ,connection - friendship.

I don’t recall if i commented first, or if i began to write one day – i do know i added many names to my buddy list – thinking perhaps one day we would chat – I have to this day, literally hundreds of names on it – mostly folks i’ve never spoken to; but many, after – yes, i guess -’stalking?!? – i have reached out to and become friends with.

I’ve been through many changes in the past decade – most of those centered sharply around relationships and who i am – and folks perspective/interpretation of who i am.

I’ve always found it easy to be ‘me out loud’ – I guess Xanga is a good “tabula rasa” where i can be “as good as i once was”.

  • Xanga is a place for me to escape the everyday panics. It’s a place where I can freely write what I want about everything I want without being judged. It gives me the freedom to express myself in any which way I want without having to fear that my blogs would be read by friends and then having them judge me for being myself. It’s a source of momentary liberation.

  • It happens to everyone at some point in their life.

You grow up and the inevitible follows: all your friends grow up, go to college, move away, get married and have babies. The world expands beyond the little town you grew up together in. Those kindred spirits you spent late nights sharing your life with and talking about your dreams have gone away and taken part of your heart with them. You’ve moved past talking about it to actually doing it. Life happens. And you know what? Sometimes you just want to be back in your bedroom, talking, laughing and once again sharing your lives with the ones you love most:  your friends and family. So that’s why. Xanga is like my reconnection with those friends & family (and friends who are like family) who moved: to NYC, Washington, Commerce, Tyler, Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas and all points in between. Even if the chaos of life prevents us from talking on the phone, our blogs keep each other close.

  • FROM WHY

first of all, i’m amazed at how many people have submitted entries.  there’s been awesome responses coming in at this point and each one is carefully read and considered.  so that each entry has ample attention, many of the submitted entries will be on queue now and you’ll see them in the coming days.  i’ll do my best to update on a regular basis.  here are some more ideas to throw out there and guidelines that will help push on our initiative:

    • keep the entries short if you can.  or better yet, also use pictures to share your thoughts as well.

    • one idea is to also share pictures – such as, you meeting xanga friends.  but keep in mind, hope to keep this site clean enough to make your mother proud…

    • poems are awesome…even if they don’t rhyme.  basically be creative!

    • where the videos at?  there are several websites out there that let you upload videos – so if you got a link of one that fits the why initiative, then send it over!

    • if there’s an entry you like to see, let the person know!  there should be a link at the end of each entry where you can visit their page and find out more.  after all, that’s what this site is all about -each other.  for all the anon people, leave a comment on that post!

    • by submitting entries, you grant xanga.com/why a perpetual, royalty-free license to use, distribute, publish, edit, and otherwise exercise all copyright and publicity rights with respect to blah blah blah blah.  basically that it’s ok to use your material.  if you don’t want this stuff used, then simply don’t submit it.    but generally if this becomes something big, i’ll definitely be contacting you about it.

    • also keep the submissions coming!  even if you already submitted one, doesn’t mean you can’t submit another!  remember, you can be anonymous if you want.

and if you have any suggestions to help improve this site, please do share…thanks!
